New “TNT Sharpening System” from Tormek Sharpening turning tools on water-cooled grinders is becoming more and more popular versus dry grinding. Many wood turners have discovered the advantages of water-cooling namely sharper edges and a longer tool life.
To make the method even more beneficial for turners, Tormek is now introducing the TNT Sharpening System which stands for “Touch ‘N’ Turn”. You just touch up the edge and go back to your turning in less than a minute.
The Tormek TNT system includes a new Instruction Box with a one hour and 20 minute, fully indexed DVD and an instruction handbook which shows how to shape and sharpen all your turning tools on their water cooled system. The TNT fi lm is made by Jeff Farris an experienced USA woodturning instructor and the handbook is written by Torgny Jansson the inventor of the Tormek sharpening system.
Using the unique Tormek jigs and techniques, a minimal amount of steel is removed at each sharpening and you create a finely honed surface on the tool which leaves a more cleanly turned surface. Since the profi le is exactly replicated, your tool performs in the same way after every re-sharpening. Furthermore the tools stay sharp longer so you spend less time on sharpening and sanding and have more time for turning.
In the DVD, Jeff Farris covers every type of turning tool, but focuses on the most important tools, which are also the most difficult to sharpen, such as fingernail bowl and spindle gouges and skews even with a curved edge. Plus, the fi lm also contains useful turning tips for each type of tool.
The Handbook describes the whole TNT System and its possibilities. Numerous line drawings show step by step how to shape and sharpen your tools.
